No Project Too Small

Designed in collaboration with Dick and Angel Strawbridge of Escape to the Chateau, the L’Atelier Apron is a full-front work apron made for the kitchen, workshop and wherever practical work gets done. Part of our Chateau Collection, it combines rustic French character with Jack Stillman’s approach to honest materials and purposeful design. Made from 8oz waxed cotton canvas, it offers comfortable coverage, useful storage and a distinctive look that belongs just as comfortably at a kitchen bench as it does at a workbench.

Get Tooled Up!

A good apron should protect your clothes and keep the things you need within reach. L’Atelier features a divided breast pocket for pens, utensils and smaller tools, along with two generous lower pockets for larger essentials. An adjustable neck loop with brass snap buttons helps you find the right fit, while long fabric waist ties secure the apron comfortably in place. Measuring 74cm wide by 84cm high, it provides practical coverage without getting in the way of the job.

Heritage-Grade Natural Materials

We craft bags from heavyweight beeswaxed canvas, genuine brass, and premium full-grain leather, delivering authentic quality, sustainability, and enduring style that matures beautifully rather than deteriorating.

Canvas, Leather And Brass

The 8oz waxed cotton canvas provides a water-repellent outer layer with a natural, tactile finish. Brass rivets reinforce the corners of the breast and lower pockets, helping them stand up to regular use. Leather edging along the two lower pocket openings adds durability where hands and tools repeatedly come and go. Brass snap buttons provide straightforward neck adjustment. Every detail serves a purpose, bringing together traditional materials and practical construction in an apron designed to be put to work.

“I couldn’t be happier with the L’Atelier Apron. I’m not known for being gentle with my things and I don’t need to be with this apron. It’s exceptionally well put together and I made sure there was plenty of extra support around the pockets. Mine earns it’s keep in my kitchen”

Dick Strawbridge, Escape to the Chateau

Better With Every Project

Waxed cotton is made to develop character. With use, the canvas will soften, crease and develop a patina that reflects the work you do in it. The wax finish helps repel water and can be renewed using Jack Stillman Fabric Wax to maintain or improve its resistance. Leather details will also develop their own character, while the brass fittings are chosen for lasting service. Rather than trying to keep this apron looking new, the idea is to use it, care for it and let it tell its own story.

Made For Making Things

There’s something satisfying about putting on a proper apron and getting stuck into a project. Whether you’re preparing a meal, restoring an old piece of furniture or making something from scratch, L’Atelier is designed to be part of the process. Created with Dick and Angel, it brings a little of the château’s resourceful, creative spirit into everyday work. Not simply something to wear, but something to use, mark and make your own.

FAQs

Waxing canvas is a natural way or protecting the fabric and whoever is under it. The wax finish causes water to bead off instead of soaking into the fibres. The advantage is that this method of proofing the fabric also allows it to breathe, unlike the plastic treatment options found in waterproof fabrics. Want to know more? Read this article.
