Not all Heroes Wear Capes - But Most Do

The Mon Ange Cape is a full-length waxed cotton cape inspired by an authentic 18th-century design and reworked for modern outdoor use. Part of our Château Collection with Dick and Angel Strawbridge, it combines traditional form with practical weather protection. At 120cm long and 173cm wide, its flowing cut gives you plenty of room to move while keeping your body, arms and hands well covered when the weather turns.

Stay Covered, Keep Moving

A cape gives you weather protection without locking your arms inside sleeves. Two 40cm arm slits let you put your hands through only when needed, while weather flaps help keep wind, rain and drizzle out. A 25cm rear slit improves mobility and sitting, and the generous cut leaves room to move comfortably underneath. Add the removable wide hood when conditions worsen, or wear it without for a cleaner, traditional silhouette.

Heritage-Grade Natural Materials

We craft bags from heavyweight beeswaxed canvas, genuine brass, and premium full-grain leather, delivering authentic quality, sustainability, and enduring style that matures beautifully rather than deteriorating.

Waxed Canvas Protection

The cape is made from 8oz waxed cotton canvas, finished with five brass front buttons and a 60cm YKK AquaGuard® zip for added weather resistance. A wide collar sits over a removable hood that zips neatly around and beneath the collar. Inside, a three-quarter cotton lining features a custom pattern inspired by Angel Strawbridge’s Museum of Wallpaper at Château de la Motte-Husson, adding a distinctly Château detail without compromising the cape’s practical purpose.

“Having admired Angel’s creativity for years, the opportunity to work with the Strawbridges was an absolute dream! The Mon Ange Cape was a labour of love, combining the Chateau’s beautiful aesthetic with our practical design philosophy. Seeing it all come together has been one of my proudest moments at Jack Stillman.”

Weather the Weather Well

Waxed cotton is designed to be used, marked and maintained. As the Mon Ange Cape wears in, the fabric develops character rather than simply looking worn out. Its water repellency can also be renewed — or increased — by re-waxing the canvas when required. Brass hardware will develop its own natural patina over time, giving the cape the kind of appearance that comes from genuine use rather than something manufactured to look old.

A Little Château Adventure

Designed by Jarrod Stillman and Angel Strawbridge, the Mon Ange Cape brings together the practicality of outdoor equipment with the character and romance of Château de la Motte-Husson. It is substantial, distinctive and made to be worn rather than saved for good. Each cape also includes our limited-edition commemorative brass Château Pin depicting Château de la Motte-Husson — a small finishing detail for a piece made to have a story of its own.

FAQs

Waxing canvas is a natural way or protecting the fabric and whoever is under it. The wax finish causes water to bead off instead of soaking into the fibres. The advantage is that this method of proofing the fabric also allows it to breathe, unlike the plastic treatment options found in waterproof fabrics. Want to know more? Read this article.
